A common blackmail scam is Facebook blackmail, and it is easy to become victimized. Blackmailers connect with a person, and then they connect with their friends. Those who accept assume the profile is real because they are friends of a friend. I have seen profiles where the online scammer created an in-depth profile with a local high school, a similar graduation year, and living a town or two over from victims.
Facebook blackmail happens quickly, the profile is a hot-looking woman, and she wants to chat. Sometimes the conversation happens on Messenger, or they move it to Snapchat, Google Chats, or Skype. At this stage, the blackmailer has a list of your Facebook family and friends. Depending on your profile, it could list your spouse and employment, enough information to destroy most victims.
Some victims go live on video, and others send compromising photos. You will note that the woman never spoke in the video, only typed. It is looped. Once you expose yourself, blackmail happens quickly, and your world tumbles. The demand for payment is harsh, threats that will make a man weak at the knees.
Refrain from paying; it is crucial to stall for time. Claim you have no money and need 24 hours to borrow. The threats will be consistent, but you must stand your ground so you can produce a plan to end Facebook blackmail.
Think about online privacy and how to disappear online. Turn all your social media private and remove all profile photos. You must lock down Facebook but do not block the online blackmailer. However, if you are communicating with them on another medium, delete Facebook if friends ask why you did, say someone hacked your account.
